Photoacoustic imaging of tumor vascular involvement and surgical margin pathology for feedback-guided intraoperative tumor resection

چکیده
Surgery represents the mainstream therapeutic modality in oncology. Aggressive radical surgery to achieve no residual tumor would improve survival, which is mainly affected by vascular involvement and accuracy of judging negative margin resection. However, there currently intraoperative tool that can simultaneously perform microscopic analysis peritumoral vasculature vivo surgical pathology ex vivo, leads randomness one-time complete resection tumor, patient may have undergo secondary surgery. To address this critical need, we developed a 532/266 nm dual-wavelength photoacoustic (PA) microscopy imaging (532/266-PAI) system enables both regional pathological assessment fresh samples. A mammary animal model was established mimic process resection, from judgment margins. It proved 532/266-PAI technology identify through visualization, determine plan, then judge whether completely removed ultraviolet PA (UPA) imaging. Re-excision evaluation are performed when positive diagnosed intraoperation UPA The 266/532-PAI technique has great potential for navigation.

Successful treatment of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor by surgical resection and radiotherapy: A case report
Background: Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a tumor composed of myofibroblasts and a mixed inflammatory infiltrate that rarely undergoes malignant transformation. The most common sites of involvement include the lung, liver and orbit, but it has been reported to occur in nearly every site of the body, including oral cavity and soft tissue. Although common in other sites, such a tumo...
متن کاملImage-Guided Brain Tumor Resection
Surgical treatment of primary brain tumors remains a considerable challenge for the neurosurgeon. Nonetheless, surgery is the mainstay of glioma therapy because it provides the means of obtaining absolute tissue diagnosis, mapping tumor margins, mechanical cytoreduction, and guidance of adjuvant therapy such as brachytherapy, gene therapy, or radiosurgery. Recent developments in computation tec...
متن کاملThe surgical resection margin
In the treatment of cancer the fundamental surgical goal is to remove all local malignant disease and leave no residual malignant cells. Studies have demonstrated the benefit of achieving negative resection margins in terms of disease free local recurrence and overall survival. The surgical margins for Head & Neck cancer may vary widely depending on the site of disease. This variation reflects ...
متن کاملSurgical treatment outcome of giant cell tumor of distal ulna: En bloc resection vs. curettage and bone graft
Background: Giant cell tumor (GCT) of the bone is a benign neoplasm with local aggressive behavior. Distal ulna is a very rare place for GCT. Published studies have mainly focused on case reports, and thus there is no consistent treatment strategy for this tumor at this location. This retrospective study was conducted to evaluate the oncological and functional results of 2 di...
متن کاملAssessing breast tumor margin by multispectral photoacoustic tomography.
An unmet need exists in high-speed and highly-sensitive intraoperative assessment of breast cancer margin during conservation surgical procedures. Here, we demonstrate a multispectral photoacoustic tomography system for breast tumor margin assessment using fat and hemoglobin as contrasts. This system provides ~3 mm tissue depth and ~125 μm axial resolution. The results agreed with the histologi...
